MARBLE SURFACE TREATMENT
Marble is a crystallized rock that is formed as a result of the metamorphic transformation(intense pressure and high temperatures) of limestone. Different substances and minerals enter the composition of the stone during this process, creating the variation of colors and veining.
Stone was formed from different types of natural minerals. Marble's main consistency is calcium. Calcium carbonate is the natural source that bonds the stone.
Marble isn't as tough as you may think; it's a comparatively soft stone that is easily scratched and marred. On a measurement of hardness of (MOHS), marble is approximately a three out of ten. Marble is made of calcium, just like your teeth. If you eat something too hard you will break your tooth. If you eat a lot of sugar you will get a cavity. Stone reacts the same way. If an improper chemical is applied to the surface, that will result in the stone corrosion.
If you are an owner of marble table top, sink, floor or you are planning to install one, here are several stone care "musts" you should keep in mind:
1. Wipe down marble surfaces with a damp rag and buff dry for routine weekly cleaning. 2. Use a neutral, non abrasive cleaner (Mangia Macchia paste) for tough stains. 3. Protect marble surface with a stone sealer. 4. Place coasters under glasses and put plastic under cosmetics on marble surfaces. 5. Use rugs to cover marble floors, especially at the entrance.
